Product Care & Maintenance
Will my fire pit rust?
Yes. All steel fire pits will develop surface rust over time when exposed to outdoor conditions. This is completely normal and does not affect the structural integrity or performance of your fire pit.
Why does the paint wear off?
There are currently no industrial coatings that can permanently withstand direct flame exposure. Areas exposed to heat and flame will naturally lose their finish over time.
How do I maintain my fire pit?
We recommend:
- Brushing the fire pit with a steel brush at the end of each season
- Removing loose rust or debris
- Applying a fresh coat of high heat paint as needed
Every Muskoka Fire Pit includes a can of Thurmalox 270 High Heat Stove Paint to help keep your fire pit looking its best.
How can I extend the life of my fire pit?
To maximize longevity:
- Keep the bottom drain hole clear
- Remove ash regularly
- Avoid trapping moisture inside the fire pit
- Store in a dry location when possible
- Cover with plywood or a breathable cover rather than plastic
Should I cover my fire pit with a tarp?
No. Plastic tarps can trap moisture and accelerate rusting. A breathable cover or simple plywood cover is a much better option.
