Product Advisory: Important Information for Muskoka Fire Pits

Thank you for choosing Muskoka Fire Pits! Our fire pits are crafted from high-quality metal, designed to provide you with a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience. Please review the following important information to ensure the longevity and safe use of your fire pit:

Surface Rust Development

Please note that due to the nature of metal, your fire pit will develop surface rust when exposed to outdoor elements. This is a normal process and does not affect the structural integrity of the fire pit. Unfortunately, there are currently no industrial high-heat paints available that can withstand direct exposure to flame. If desired, you may use a high-heat rust-resistant paint on the exterior surfaces to minimize rust, but be aware that even these paints will not last indefinitely when exposed to direct flames. Every Muskoka Fire Pit will come with one can of Thurmalox 270 High heat stove paint to keep your Fire Pit looking fresh. 

Safety Precautions

• Check for Roots and Flammable Objects: Before lighting a fire, ensure there are no roots or other flammable objects near the fire pit. Also, be mindful of any overhanging trees or nearby foliage that could catch fire.
• Surface Considerations: The surface on which you place your fire pit is crucial for safety. Certain types of rocks, such as granite, can combust when exposed to high heat. We recommend placing your fire pit on a non-combustible surface such as patio stones, concrete, brick, or a heat-resistant mat to avoid any potential hazards. Do not place your fire pit on a wood deck, as this poses a significant fire risk.
• Bylaw Regulations: Always check with your local bylaws for any regulations regarding outdoor fire pits. This includes ensuring the fire pit is placed at a safe distance from your home and other structures as specified by local laws.

Will my fire pit rust?

Yes it will. There are no industrial paints that resist direct flame contact.

You may see by the end of the season shadows of rust.

What can I do to maintain it?

At the end of the season use a steel brush in and out, and apply another coat of Thurmalox 270.

What can I do to extend life of the fire pit?

Do not try to cover it under a plastic tarp as it would trap moisture.

Half a sheet of plywood on top is plenty sufficient.

Keep the drain hole at the bottom clear.

How long will the mesh last?

Customer feedback shows that even after 5-6 year the inner mesh is still doing its job.

If the mesh needed to be replaced, undo the self tapping screw replace the damaged one with a new one, install a new self tapping screw.
